FOUND!

After 3 months of being MIA, our little buddy has been found... still parked at a post office in Cali. It has changed it's course and is now headed to the UK. Stay tuned...

I was confused when I first received the Global Photo Safari package, but once I read through all the instructions, I thought it was a cute idea and curious to see where in the world this camera would go off to! My clue was a Blue Square and so I wanted to get an amazing view from a window because I spend lots of time traveling and looking out windows from a car, plane, room/office, etc...so the camera came on a little vacation with me to Telluride, CO (another hit for the map!) while I did some work (and got to ski!) :-) It did very well hanging out in my purse all week and is still in good condition. Spending a little too much time with me, it is now on its way to Split, Croatia to visit my sister, Katarina! This camera needs some mileage! I was going to include a picture of Telluride, but thought that might spoil the fun of seeing the photo that was taken with the camera. Bon Voyage!

2008 Update

Our little Globetrotter has been busy changing hands. As Stacey said, she sent it to Lori in England. While Lori was visiting Texas she handed it to another visitor, Angela, who actually lives in Chesire, CT. And now he is on his way to Veda in Brighton, MA. Thanks to all for keeping this project going!

LaLaLand

My clue was a CHAIR and I took a photo of an eclectic Brazilian cafe in my neighborhood where no chair is the same. Although you won't be able to see the photo of the chair(s) until the camera returns to Jen, you can see the Globe-cam on location in Los Angeles, CA!

The Journey Begins

The camera left New York City this morning and is headed to LA to Stacey Meineke. Can't wait to see it's adventures!

About the Project

The project is essentially a scavenger hunt completed by a team made up of unknowing people who live around the world. As one person completes their task, they send it to a friend living the furthest away. One receives his/her task by choosing a sealed envelope that contains a flashcard that acts as a clue. The camera holder finds a link between the imagery on their clue and a part of their daily routine and then photographs it. Before sending the camera off, the team member places the flash card in the provided journal. All journal entries will later be joined with their corresponding photos. For more information, please see the instructions at the bottom of the page.

Instructions for Camera Recipients:

1. When you receive the camera please email me with your name, location and the condition of the camera. Also, request to join this blog. Use the blog to learn where the camera came from, track it once it leaves your hands and to communicate with the other participants.

2. Open ONLY ONE of the sealed envelopes. Your task is to take a photo that includs your clue. You can take the image on the flash card literally or not. For example, looking at the globe flash card... your photo could include a map, water, land, a stand, something that spins, etc.

3. The photo must be taken during your daily routine or commute. By taking it during your routine, it encourages you to rediscover the everyday in a creative way. Plus, it will give everyone a glimpse into your life.

4. Try your best to complete the task within a week.

5. Wind/advance the film just before taking the photograph, NOT after you take the shot (this will avoid an accidental photo being taken).

6. Choose good weather for the time of you photo. After all, this is just a disposable camera.

7. Use this journal to record your experience. Please paste your flashcard on a page and include information about the photograph: where it was taken, date and time and how it relates to your clue. Also, feel free to include any other information about yourself that would like to share with the rest of the team: thoughts, favorite part of the day, something overheard, poem/lyrics, sketch, etc. Please see my example in the journal.

8. Once you have taken your photo, please pick the next participant. Choose the person living furthest away who you think would be interested in participating. This will aid in it traveling around the world and being sent to someone who will keep the project going. NOTE: Please do not notify the person about the project. If you feel like you need to give them a heads up, please try not to disclose too much about the project. I'd like the element of surprise to be part of the experience.

9. When shipping, try to use the same box. Please use registered mail that provides tracking information. Pass along all tracking info so that I can keep an eye on it's travels and can locate it if it gets lost.

10. If you receive the package and there are only 2 clues left, pick one of the envelopes. Once you have taken your photo, contribute to the journal and send the package to me. I will complete the last task.
